The following shall be the minimum requirements for the position of Chief of Police:
U.S. Citizen
Must live within 15 miles of the intersection of State Routes 14 and 303
Valid Ohio Driver’s License
Good driving record
No past criminal record
Good moral character
Sound mental and physical health
Weight must be proportional to height and age
Vision: 20/20 corrected, 20/80 uncorrected
Color identification requirement
Good hearing with no limiting disabilities
Non-use of tobacco products while on duty
Non-user unprescribed drugs
10 years minimum and 5 years of a current supervisory position of sergeant or above in a similar sized or larger department.
Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or related field
Appropriate experience in full time continued law enforcement of 10 years minimum and 5 years of a current supervisory position of sergeant or above in a similar sized or larger department may be substituted for degree requirements
Current Ohio Peace Officer Training certificate
Leadership, administrative and communication skills are essential
Desirable candidates will have knowledge in personnel administration, scheduling, public relations, training, program planning and budgeting
Candidates must have the ability to work within a team management approach and a strong desire to serve the needs of the community.
