AMENDMENT TO SECTION 507
UNLIMITED AREA BUILDINGS
   A.   Subsection 507.4 Sprinklered, one-story:
   Under "Exceptions", delete number 2.
   B.   Subsection 507.14 Smoke Control System
   507.14 Smoke Control System: All unlimited area buildings in accordance with this section shall have a mechanical or natural smoke control system designed to control the migration of products of combustion in the building.
   C.   Subsection 507.14.1 Mechanical Exhaust
   507.14.1 Mechanical Exhaust: The smoke control system shall exhaust not less than the following quantities of air:
      1.   For buildings having a volume of not more than 600,000 cubic feet (16,800 m3), the system shall be designed for not less than 40,000 cubic feet per minute (18.88 m3/s) nor less than six (6) air changes per hour.
      2.   For buildings having a volume of more than 600,000 cubic feet (16,800 m3), the system shall be designed for not less than four (4) air changes per hour.
   D.   Subsection 507.14.2 Ventilation
   507.13.2 Natural Ventilation: The smoke control system shall exhaust not less than the following quantities of air by the use of manually operated smoke vents or skylights. The type of skylights or vents shall be approved by the Fire Official. The roof mounted vents shall be spaced and sized in accordance with Section 930.0 Smoke and Heat Vents.
   E.   Subsection 507.14.3 Activation of System
   507.13.3 Activation: The smoke control system shall be manually activated. Manual controls shall be located in the location approved by the Fire Official. When a mechanical smoke control system is activated, other air handling systems which interfere with the performances of the smoke control system shall shut off automatically.
   F.   Subsection 507.14.4 Supply Air
   507.13.4 Supply Air: Mechanical smoke control systems shall have 100% of supply air equal to size of exhaust system. The method of supply air operation shall be approved by the Fire Official. Supply air introduced by gravity is permitted provided that smoke control is accomplished.
