All regular employees of the fire department shall be appointed by the board of fire and police commissioners. Such members shall be employees of the village and shall receive such compensation as is fixed by the president and board of trustees from time to time.
All appointments of personnel shall be for a probationary period of one year. The board of fire and police commissioners may extend the probation upon recommendation of the fire chief or if employee has not completed requirements of the job. If at the expiration of that time, the applicant, in the opinion of the board of fire and police commissioners, proves to be fit for the position, he/she shall be permanently certified to the position by the board. If in the judgment of the board, he/she shall prove unsatisfactory at the expiration of that time, he/she shall be dropped from the service. (1994 Code)
