4-1-2: CHIEF OF POLICE:
   A.   Office Created: There is hereby created the office of Chief of Police, which officer shall be appointed by the President and Board of Trustees. If the Chief shall, at a later date, no longer be Chief of Police, he shall automatically revert back to and continue to retain his rank held at the time of his appointment and such person shall not lose his rank by virtue of such appointment.
   B.   Duties: The Chief of Police shall:
      1.   Be the keeper of the Village jail, and shall have custody of all persons incarcerated therein.
      2.   Keep such records and make such response concerning the activities of his Department as may be required by statute or Village ordinance.
      3.   Be responsible for the performance by the Police Department of all its functions, and all persons who are members of the Department shall serve subject to the orders of the Chief of Police.
      4.   Be the custodian of all lost, abandoned or stolen property in the Village.
      5.   Be authorized to serve writs, summons and other processes, and no officer or patrolman shall serve any such summons or process except on the order of the Chief of Police, or of the Village President. (1994 Code; amd. Ord. 1998-2, 1-8-1998)
