A. There is hereby created a Police Department, an executive department of the Village. The Police Department shall consist of one Chief of Police, Deputy Chiefs, commanders, sergeants, and police officers, in such numbers as may be provided from time to time by the President and Board of Trustees. Such members of the police force shall be appointed by the President with the approval of the Board of Trustees; provided, that the approval of the Chief of Police shall also be required for all positions other than Chief of Police.
B. It shall be the duty of the members of the Police Department to see to the enforcement of all ordinances of the Village, of all statutes effective in the Village, and to preserve order and prevent infractions of the law and to arrest violators thereof. Every sworn member of the Police Department is hereby declared to be a conservator of the peace. (1994 Code)
