It shall be the intent and purpose of the community relations commission to be a recommending commission only and:
A. To promote fair and equal treatment and opportunity under the law to all persons, regardless of their economic, sex, age, racial, religious or ethnic background;
B. To promote social harmony in the community of the village, and through education and action, including dispute resolution, to help deter prejudice, discrimination and intolerance in whatever form these shall appear;
C. To develop services and projects which will assist residents in meeting practical problems and in adjusting to the changing circumstances, to enrich the social and intellectual life of all residents;
D. To foster accord and cooperation among individuals or groups of different races, ethnic backgrounds or religious beliefs in order to improve the living environment of all residents;
E. To provide a forum during regular meetings where citizens are encouraged to come forward with their human relations concerns and to make an honest attempt to deal with those concerns in a constructive manner;
F. To safeguard the rights of all citizens as defined by the ordinances of the village and state and federal laws and constitutions;
G. To make comment to the village board regarding problems and issues affecting a culturally diverse community and make recommendations which may be present in agenda items under consideration;
H. To be aware of human relations dilemmas nationally and worldwide, and to attempt to devise ways to positively address those dilemmas. (Ord. 2003-21, 5-1-2003)
