1349.01 TYPE AND PLACEMENT OF NUMBERS.
   (a)   All buildings and structures, whether residential, commercial or industrial, shall be adequately and properly identified for the purpose of facilitating the rendering of public services by the Fire, Police and Service Departments.
   (b)   All buildings and structures shall display a street address number, posted near the entrance door or walkway facing the street, with numerals at least three inches high on a contrasting background so as to be clearly visible from the street. In addition to the street address numbers near the entrance door, every building unit located more than seventy-five feet from the street shall also display a set of clearly visible street address numbers, as herein prescribed, near the driveway entrance to the building unit. In the event of special circumstances due to the location of the building unit, entrance or driveway, the Fire Chief shall determine where the street address numbers shall be displayed to facilitate ready location of the building unit. In the event that script numbers are used, an additional set of block-type Arabic numerals shall appear in a conspicuous place. The numerals shall be at least three inches in height and sufficient in width so as to be readily discernible from the street.
   (c)   It shall be mandatory on a newly constructed building that the numbers be on display, as required in this section, on completion of the building and prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy by the Chief Building Official.
   (d)   The County Engineer’s office shall keep a chart showing the proper street number of every lot in the City, which chart shall be open to inspection by the public.
   (e)   Notwithstanding any provision of subsection (b) of this section to the contrary, the street address number for a residential building or structure may be placed on a free-standing mailbox or mailbox post and shall be numerals at least three (3) inches in height and sufficient in width so as to be readily discernible from the street.
      (1)   Such mailbox or mailbox post is:
         A.   Located at the street in the front of the residential building or structure;
         B.   On the same side of the street as the residential building or structure; and
         C.   The only mailbox or mailbox post located at the street in front of that residential building or structure; and
      (2)   The numerals are at least three (3) inches in height and sufficient in width so as to be readily discernible from the street.
   (e)   No person shall fail to identify, within sixty days after the effective date of this section any house, building or other structure occupied by him, as provided in subsection (a) hereof. (Ord. 2012-4. Passed 1-26-12.)
