(A) For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
MOTOR SCOOTER. A self-balancing two tandem-wheeled motor-driven device operated by one person in a standing position, which device has less than 150 cubic centimeter piston displacement.
MOTORIZED SCOOTER. A self-balancing two tandem-wheeled vehicle powered by a gas or electric engine, with or without a seat, which can transport one person, and normally can be collapsed or folded for carrying or storage. The vehicle frequently, but not always, does not have a 17-digit vehicle identification number (“VIN”) or manufacturer’s certificate or statement of origin (“MCO” or “MSO”).
(B) The traffic laws of the state, as set forth in the Illinois Vehicle Code and implemented by the Secretary of Illinois State and enforced by state and local law enforcement agencies, shall be deemed to apply to persons driving motorized scooters, if the scooters are titled and registered with the Secretary of Illinois State and thus permitted to be driven on streets, roads and highways.
