9-1-1: SPEED:
   (A)   No person shall drive any motor vehicle on any street not under the jurisdiction of the State of Illinois, or under the jurisdiction of the County of Champaign within the Village at a speed in excess of twenty five (25) miles per hour unless a different speed limit is provided for in subsection (B) of this section.    (B)   No person shall drive any vehicle on any street or highway listed in this subsection in excess of the maximum speed limit listed herein: (Ord., 11-10-1981)

      2.   The maximum speed on the following streets shall be twenty (20) miles per hour:
 
Green Street
From its intersection with Sherman Street to its intersection with James Street.
James Street
From its intersection with Green Street to its intersection with Elm Street.
Sherman Street
From its intersection with Green Street to its intersection with Elm Street.

      3.   The maximum speed limit shall be twenty (20) miles per hour in the following school zones on days when school is in session and children are present:
 
Ethel Street
From Main Street to Harlan Wise Drive.
Harlan Wise Drive
From Douglas Street to Peters Drive.
Main Street
From Warren Street to Grand Avenue.
Peters Drive
From Fifth Street to Harlan Wise Drive.
Prospect Street
From Main Street to Fifth Street.
Fifth Street
From Warren Street to Peters Drive.

   (C)   No operator or driver of any vehicle on any street or highway within the Village shall unnecessarily cause the vehicle he is driving to accelerate excessively. For purposes of this section, to "accelerate excessively" shall mean to cause the vehicle's tires to spin or lose traction on the pavement, or to accelerate at a rate that is faster than ordinary and reasonable.
   (D)   The fact that the speed of a vehicle does not exceed the applicable maximum speed limit does not relieve the driver from the duty to decrease speed when approaching and crossing an intersection, when approaching and going around a curve, when approaching a hillcrest, when traveling upon any narrow or winding roadway, or when special hazards exist with respect to pedestrians or other traffic by reason of weather or highway conditions. Speed shall be decreased as may be necessary to avoid colliding with any person or vehicle on or entering the highway in compliance with legal requirements and the duty of all persons to use due care.
