Public Act 523 of 2012 made comprehensive changes to Michigan Election Law. On October 13, 2014 the St. Johns City Commission adopted a resolution to hold its regular election for local offices at the November even year regular election. Pursuant to Public Act 523 of 2012 and the Charter provisions of the city in conflict therewith so far as the holding of primary elections are concerned and so far as the filing of nominating petitions are concerned are superseded as herein provided. The Charter provides the office of City Commissioner shall be nominated by the filing of petitions, but the date for the filing thereof is in conflict with state election law.
