§ 51.04 SERVICE PIPES.
   Every service pipe must be laid in a manner as to prevent rupture by settlement. The service pipe shall be placed not less than seven feet below the surface in all cases, so arranged as to prevent rupture, and stoppage by freezing. Frozen service pipes between the main and the building shall be the responsibility of the owner. Service pipes must extend from the curb stops to the inside of the building. A valve, the same size as the service pipe, shall be placed close to the inside wall of the building, ahead of the meter and valve on the outlet side of meter, and also to be well protected from freezing. Joints on copper tubing shall be flared or compressed, and kept to a minimum. Not more than one joint shall be used for a service up to 70 feet in length. All water main taps shall use an approved tapping sleeve when connecting to a city water main. All water main taps, and service pipe joints, shall be left uncovered until inspected. A notice requesting inspection shall be given far enough ahead of time as to allow city staff to schedule a time to view. Minimum size connection with the water mains shall be one inch in diameter on all new water services. Type K copper or approved material shall be required from the main tap to the curb stop. A tracer wire shall be installed along the same installation route on all new water services that are not copper. The tracer wire shall be installed to provide the ability to access a connection to the tracer wire in the manner to allow connecting to a locator device.
