The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to the sale, transfer, ownership or possession of any firearm or ammunition to or by:
(a) Any person directly transporting any firearm to the Police Department of this City to surrender such firearm or for any other legitimate purpose;
(b) Any member of the Armed Forces of the United States or the National Guard when on duty;
(c) Any officer, agent or employee of this City, the State or the Federal Government who is authorized to carry a firearm and who is carrying a firearm in the performance of his official authorized functions; and
(d) Any law enforcement officers employed by governmental agencies outside the State who are engaged in their official duties, provided they have first notified the Chief of Police. (Ord. 1982-26. Passed 3-16-82.)
