§ 155.05 DISTRICT REGULATIONS.
   The following signs shall be permitted in each specified district according to the requirements herein set forth.
   (A)   R-1 and R-2 Districts.
      (1)   Nameplate signs: one sign not to exceed two square feet in area for each dwelling unit, indicating only name and/or address and placed on the wall or within ten feet of the structure;
      (2)   Institutional and recreational signs: one sign per street frontage. Signs shall not exceed 32 square feet in area and shall be placed no closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way or five feet to any sidewalk, or within any sight triangle;
      (3)   Neighborhood identification signs: one sign not to exceed 32 square feet in area per neighborhood entrance. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way or five feet to any sidewalk, or within any sight triangle unless placed within a landscaped median on the neighborhood street, in which case the sign shall not be placed closer than 15 feet to the right-of way of the intersecting street; and
      (4)   Other signs: signs allowed in subd.             .
   (B)   R-6 District.
      (1)   Wall signs: one sign or symbol per building that houses dwellings not to exceed six square feet in area per building;
      (2)   Area identification signs: one sign not to exceed 32 square feet in area per development entrance. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way or five feet to any sidewalk, or within any sight triangle;
      (3)   Institutional signs: one sign per street frontage. Signs shall not exceed 32 square feet in area and shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way line or five feet to any sidewalk, or within any sight triangle; and
      (4)   Other signs: signs allowed in subd.            .
   (C)   MU-BR District.
      (1)   Wall signs on principal structures: one sign per wall or side of building facing a street or a parcel zoned the same as the subject property, with a maximum of three. The total area of any wall sign shall not exceed 10% of the total area of the facades facing the same direction as the wall to which it is affixed, unless approved by the City Council;
      (2)   Wall signs on leased space: one sign per tenant or, in the case of a corner space, per public entrance, with a maximum of two. The total area of any wall sign shall not exceed 10% of the facade of the smallest side of the leased space to which it is affixed. No sign shall be closer than two feet to the edge of the leased space;
      (3)   Wall signs on accessory structures: one sign per wall or side of a building facing a street or property zoned the same as the subject property, with a maximum of two. The total area of any wall sign shall not exceed 3% of the total area of the facades facing the same direction as the wall to which it is affixed;
      (4)   Canopy signs: one sign per side facing a street frontage or a parcel zoned the same as the subject property. If the sign is not illuminated, a canopy sign facing a parcel zoned differently than the subject parcel shall be allowed. The maximum number of canopy signs is three. The length of the sign shall not exceed 70% of the length of the side to which it is affixed. The height of the sign shall not exceed two feet;
      (5)   Monument signs: one sign for each street frontage, with a maximum of two. The area of each sign shall not exceed 32 square feet with a maximum height of five feet and a maximum length of ten feet. For parcels less than one acre in size, only one sign shall be allowed, and the maximum size shall be 24 square feet. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way line or within any sight triangle;
      (6)   Pylon signs: one sign per site, not to exceed 48 square feet and 25 feet in height. If the subject parcel is adjacent to any residentially-zoned parcel, the maximum height shall be 20 feet or the height of the principal structure, whichever is less. Up to 24 square feet of the pylon sign may be used as a digital sign; if a digital sign is installed as part of a larger pylon sign, the pylon sign shall be considered one sign. For parcels less than one acre in size, the maximum size shall be 24 square feet, of which 12 square feet can be used as a digital sign, and the maximum height shall be 18 feet. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way, and if the pylon(s) on which the face of the sign is mounted is wider than three feet in any direction, the sign may not be placed within any site triangle;
      (7)   Area identification signs: one sign per development entrance not to exceed 48 square feet with a maximum height of six feet. For parcels less than one acre in size, only one sign shall be allowed regardless of the number of entrances, and the maximum size shall be 36 square feet. Such sign shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way line or five feet to any sidewalk, or within any sight triangle;
      (8)   Multi-tenant signs: one sign per street frontage, with a maximum of two. Multi-tenant signs are considered monument or pylon signs when calculating the number of signs permitted. The area of each sign shall not exceed 60 square feet with a maximum height of 14 feet and a maximum length of ten feet for monument signs and a maximum height of 20 feet for pylon signs. For parcels less than one acre in size, only one sign shall be allowed, and the maximum size shall be 48 square feet and the maximum height shall be 12 feet for monument and 16 feet for pylon signs. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way line or five feet to any sidewalk, or within any sight triangle;
      (9)   Other signs: signs allowed in section:            ; and
      (10)   Maximum number of signs: in the case of a building with multiple accessory structures, the total number of wall signs, including the principal structure, shall not exceed five. In the case of multiple canopies, the total number of canopy signs shall not exceed four. A property may have a monument sign or signs or a pylon sign, but not both. Directional signs are permitted as described elsewhere in this chapter.
   (D)   B-2 District.
      (1)   Wall signs on principal structures: one sign per wall or side of building facing a street or a parcel zoned the same as the subject property, with a maximum of three. The total area of any wall sign shall not exceed 10% of the total area of the facades facing the same direction as the wall to which it is affixed. Digital signs are permitted as less than 50% of the square footage of the primary wall sign. If the primary wall sign is only a digital sign, the total area shall not exceed 5% of the total area of the facades facing the same direction as the wall to which it is affixed. Slight variations from the requirements of this paragraph may be permitted by the City Council;
      (2)   Wall signs on leased space: one sign per tenant or, in the case of a corner space, per public entrance, with a maximum of two. The total area of any wall sign shall not exceed 10% of the facade of the smallest side of the leased space to which it is affixed. No sign shall be closer than two feet to the edge of the leased space;
      (3)   Wall signs on accessory structures: one sign per wall or side of a building facing a street or property zoned the same as the subject property, with a maximum of two. The total area of any wall sign shall not exceed 3% of the total area of the facades facing the same direction as the wall to which it is affixed;
      (4)   Canopy signs: one sign per side facing a street frontage or a parcel zoned the same as the subject property. If the sign is not illuminated, a canopy sign facing a parcel zoned differently than the subject parcel shall be allowed. The maximum number of canopy signs is three. The length of the sign shall not exceed 70% of the length of the side to which it is affixed. The height of the sign shall not exceed two feet;
      (5)   Monument signs: one sign for each street frontage, with a maximum of two. The area of each sign shall not exceed 60 square feet with a maximum height of seven feet and a maximum length of 14 feet. For parcels less than one acre in size, only one sign shall be allowed and the maximum size shall be 48 square feet with a maximum height of six feet. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way line or five feet to any sidewalk, or within any sight triangle;
      (6)   Pylon signs: one sign per site, not to exceed 72 square feet and 25 feet in height. Up to 36 square feet of the pylon sign may be used as a digital sign; if a digital sign is installed as part of a larger pylon sign, the pylon sign shall be considered one sign. For parcels less than one acre in size, the maximum size shall be 60 square feet, of which 30 square feet may be used as a digital sign, with a maximum height of 20 feet. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way, and if the pylon(s) on which the face of the sign is mounted is wider than three feet in any direction, the sign may not be placed within any site triangle;
      (7)   Area identification signs: one sign per development entrance not to exceed 80 square feet with a maximum height of eight feet. For parcels less and one acre in size, only one sign shall be allowed regardless of the number of entrances, and the maximum size shall be 64 square feet with a maximum height of six feet. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way line or five feet to any sidewalk, or within any sight triangle;
      (8)   Multi-tenant signs: one sign per street frontage, with a maximum of two. Multi-tenant signs are considered monument or pylon signs when calculating the number of signs permitted. The area of each sign shall not exceed 120 square feet with a maximum height of 20 feet and a maximum length of 16 feet for monument signs and a maximum height of 25 feet for pylon signs. For parcels less than one acre in size, only one sign shall be allowed and the maximum size shall be 80 square feet with a maximum height of 16 feet. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way line or five feet to any sidewalk, or within any sight triangle;
      (9)   Other signs: signs allowed in section           ; and
      (10)   Maximum number of signs: in the case of a building with multiple accessory structures, the total number of wall signs, including the principal structure, shall not exceed five. In the case of multiple canopies, the total number of canopy signs shall not exceed four. A property may have a monument sign or signs or a pylon sign, but not both. Directional signs are permitted as described elsewhere in this chapter.
   (E)   Industrial Districts (I and MU-BI).
      (1)   Wall signs on principal structures: one sign per wall or side of building facing a street or a parcel zoned the same as the subject property, with a maximum of three. The total area of any wall sign shall not exceed 5% of the total area of the facades facing the same direction as the wall to which it is affixed or 60 square feet, whichever is less;
      (2)   Wall signs on leased space: one sign per tenant or, in the case of a corner space, per side of building facing a street, with a maximum of two. The total area of any wall sign shall not exceed 10% of the facade of the leased space to which it is affixed or 48 square feet, whichever is less;
      (3)   Wall signs on accessory structures: one sign per wall or side of a building facing a street or property zoned the same as the subject property, with a maximum of two. The total area of any wall sign shall not exceed 3% of the total area of the facades facing the same direction as the wall to which it is affixed or 24 square feet, whichever is less;
      (4)   Canopy signs: one sign per side facing a street frontage or a parcel zoned the same as the subject property. If the sign is not illuminated, a canopy sign facing a parcel zoned differently than the subject parcel shall be allowed. The maximum number of canopy signs is three. The length of the sign shall not exceed 70% of the length of the side to which it is affixed. The height of the sign shall not exceed two feet;
      (5)   Monument signs: one sign for each street frontage, with a maximum of two. The area of each sign shall not exceed 60 square feet with a maximum height of seven feet and a maximum length of 14 feet. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way line or five feet to any sidewalk or within any sight triangle;
      (6)   Pylon signs: one sign per site, not to exceed 72 square feet and 25 feet in height. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way, and if the pylon(s) on which the face of the sign is mounted is wider than three feet in any direction, the sign may not be placed within any site triangle;
      (7)   Area identification signs: one sign per development entrance not to exceed 80 square feet with a maximum height of eight feet. Such sign shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way line or five feet to any sidewalk or within any sight triangle;
      (8)   Multi-tenant signs: one sign per street frontage, with a maximum of two. Multi-tenant signs are considered monument or pylon signs when calculating the number of signs permitted. The area of each sign shall not exceed 120 square feet with a maximum height of 20 feet and a maximum length of 16 feet for monument signs and a maximum height of 25 feet for pylon signs. Signs shall not be placed closer than ten feet to any street right-of-way line or five feet to any sidewalk or within any sight triangle;
      (9)   Other signs: signs allowed in section                ; and
      (10)   Maximum number of signs: in the case of a building with multiple accessory structures, the total number of wall signs, including the principal structure, shall not exceed five. A property may have a monument sign or signs or a pylon sign, but not both. Directional signs are permitted as described elsewhere in this chapter.
