For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
CERTIFICATE. The certificate of public convenience and necessity granted by the Town Council to engage in the taxicab business, as provided in this chapter.
DRIVER. Any person in charge of or operating a taxicab.
OWNER. Any person having control of the operation or maintenance and collection of the revenue of taxicabs.
TAXICAB. Any motor vehicle seating nine or fewer passengers operated upon any street or highway on call or on demand, accepting or soliciting passengers indiscriminately for hire between points along streets or highways as may be directed by the passenger or passengers so being transported, and shall not include motor vehicles or motor vehicle carriers as defined in G.S.§§ 62-259 to 62-279.
TOWN COUNCIL. The Town Council of the Town of Stallings, North Carolina.
WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE TOWN. All of the territory within the corporate limits of the town and within five miles of the corporate limits thereof at any point where a taxicab is operating between the corporate limits to points within a radius of five miles of the town.
