6-1-3: DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE; ASSISTANT CHIEF OF POLICE:
   (A)   The position of deputy chief of police is hereby created. He or she shall be appointed by the chief of police. The deputy chief of police shall serve at the pleasure of the chief of police. Anyone with five (5) years of police service shall be eligible to be considered for the position.
The salary and benefits of the deputy chief of police shall be the same as the salary and benefits of the assistant chief of police. (Ord. 1442, 12-7-2009)
   (B)   There is hereby created the office of assistant chief of police in the city. He shall be appointed by the board of fire and police commissioners as provided by statute, and his powers shall consist of the same powers and duties held by the chief during any period when the chief is sick, disabled, unavailable, or in any way incapable of performing his normal duties and functions. At all other times he shall be subordinate to the chief and render the same services as those performed by other members of the department. (Ord., 6-21-1976; amd. Ord., 7-1-1985; Ord. 1442, 12-7-2009)
