5-1-2: LOST AND ABANDONED PROPERTY:
   A.    Found Property:
      1.    It shall be the responsibility of the Chief of Police, or his designee, to take possession of all found property located within the City limits.
      2.    All found property will be handled by the Police Department as stipulated by Idaho Code, section 55-403.
      3.    All found property unclaimed by its rightful owner after a period of one hundred eighty (180) days shall be disposed of by the Police Department.
   B.    Abandoned Property:
         1. The Chief of Police, or his designee, shall have the authority to impound all abandoned property left within the City limits.
      2.    All abandoned property will be handled by the Police Department as stipulated by Idaho Code, section 55-403.
      3.    All abandoned property, with the exception of motor vehicles, not claimed by its rightful owner within a period of one hundred eighty (180) days shall be disposed of by the Police Department.
   C.    Responsibility Of Police Department; Locate Owner: The Police Department shall make reasonable effort to locate and notify the owner of lost or abandoned property.
   D.    Disposal Of Property: Disposal of abandoned and unclaimed property shall be the responsibility of the Police Department. It shall be the responsibility of the Chief of Police to order the disposal of property by:
      1.    Conversion of ownership to the City.
      2.    Release to locator of found property.
      3.    Sale, to the highest bidder, at public auction.
      4.    Destruction.
   E.    Abandoned Motor Vehicles: All abandoned vehicles shall be disposed of under the current provisions of Idaho Code.
   F.    Proceeds From Sale Of Property: Proceeds of sale from any found or abandoned property shall be disbursed as stipulated by Idaho Code, section 55-404. (Ord. 379, 3-15-94)
