7-11-2: DUTIES AND AUTHORITY OF COMMITTEE:
The Gem tree committee is an advisory committee and shall have the following duties and authority:
   A.    At the direction of the mayor, supervise planting, pruning, spraying, preserving and removing of trees and other work authorized by this chapter.
   B.    Prepare and recommend to the city council rules and regulations containing guidelines for the pruning of trees.
   C.    Prepare and recommend a tree list consisting of acceptable varieties, size of trees, property planting and spacing instructions for trees.
   D.    Provide advice to the mayor and city council as to appropriate practices for the preservation, protection and management of trees subject to this chapter.
   E.    Assist the city in taking an inventory of all existing trees on all city properties.
   F.    Assist the city in providing information to the public through educational campaigns, published material and other opportunities.
   G.   Assist the city in implementing Arbor Day celebrations and activities.
   H.   Encourage and seek other funding for city tree projects.
   I.    Identify and recommend suitable landscaping projects to the city council for city property.
   J.   Assist the city in the planning and budget process by making recommendations to the mayor and city council regarding budget issues relating to city tree projects. (Ord. 540, 9-7-2010)
