In pursuance of authority granted by the State General Assembly in the State General Statutes, specifically G.S. §§ 160A-360 et seq., the town may enforce zoning regulations to promote the public health, safety, morals and general welfare; to promote the orderly development of the community; to lessen congestion on the roads and streets; to secure safety from fire, panic, and other dangers; to provide adequate light and air; to prevent the overcrowding of land; and to avoid undue concentration of population and to facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, water, sewerage, schools, parks, and other public facilities, all in accordance with a well-considered comprehensive plan.
