§ 52.02 ABBREVIATIONS.
   The following abbreviations, when used in this chapter, shall have the designated meanings.
   BOD (BIOCHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND). The quantity of oxygen utilized in the biochemical oxidation of organic matter, under standard laboratory procedure, in five days at 20°C. BOD shall be expressed in parts per million by weight.
   C.F.R. The Code of Federal Regulations.
   COD (CHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND). The measure of the oxygen-consuming capacity of inorganic and organic matter present in water or wastewater, expressed as the amount of oxygen consumed from a chemical oxidant in a specified test. It does not differentiate between stable and unstable organic matter and thus does not necessarily correlate with biochemical oxygen demand. It is also known as OC and DOC, oxygen consumed and dichromate oxygen consumed, respectively.
   EPA. Environmental Protection Agency.
   mg. Milligrams.
   Mg/l. Milligrams per liter.
   NPDES. National pollutant discharge elimination system.
