§ 33.02 CHIEF OF POLICE.
   (A)   There is hereby created the office of Chief of Police, who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council and who shall reside within a radius of 20 miles, the centerpoint thereof being Sparta City Hall located at 114 W. Jackson St., Sparta, Illinois. The Chief of Police shall receive compensation as the City Council may establish by resolution.
   (B)   The Chief of Police shall be a conservator of the peace and it shall be his or her duty to enforce the laws of the state, the provisions of this code or ordinances and other city ordinances. The Chief of Police shall perform other duties as the Mayor may direct.
