Every police officer of this municipality shall meet the following qualifications:
(A) He or she shall be at least 21 years of age;
(B) Shall possess a high school diploma and be able to produce evidence of their ability to communicate in the English language in both the spoken and written word;
(C) Shall be physically and psychologically healthy and be willing to submit to a physical and psychological evaluation;
(D) Shall be of good character and shall not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude;
(E) Shall have such qualifications as required by state law or by the Board of Trustees;
(F) Shall have, as a full-time officer, successfully completed the State Law Enforcement Training Standards Board initial minimum basic training requirements within six months of his or her employment date;
(G) Shall have, as a part-time officer, successfully completed the State Law Enforcement Training Standards Board initial minimum part-time training requirements within 18 months of his or her employment date; and
(H) Part-time police shall meet the following qualifications.
(1) Employment. The village may employ part-time police officers, from time to time, as they deem necessary.
(2) Duties. A part-time police officer shall have all the responsibilities of a full-time police officer and such specific duties as delineated in the general orders of the Village Police Department, but the number of hours a part-time officer may work within a calendar year is restricted. Part-time police officers shall not be assigned to supervise or direct full-time police officers. Part-time police officers shall be trained in accordance with the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705/1 et seq.) and the rules and requirements of the ILETSB.
(3) Hiring standards. Any person employed as a part-time police officer must meet the following standards:
(a) Be of good moral character, of temperate habits, of sound health and physically and mentally able to perform assigned duties;
(b) Be at least 21 years of age;
(c) Pass a medical examination;
(d) Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate;
(e) Possess a valid state driver’s license;
(f) Possess no prior felony convictions; and
(g) Any individual who has served in the United States military must have been honorably discharged.
(4) Discipline. Part-time officers shall be under the disciplinary jurisdiction of the Chief of Police. Part-time police officers serve at the discretion of the village authorities, shall not have any property rights in said employment and may be removed by the village authorities at any time. Part-time police officers shall comply with all applicable rules and general orders issued by the Police Department.
