(A) Establishment of position.
(1) The position of building inspector is created and the executive official in charge shall be known as the Building Inspector.
(2) The Building Inspector shall be appointed by the President and Board of Trustees. His or her appointment shall continue during good behavior and satisfactory service. He or she shall not be removed from his or her position except for cause after full opportunity has been given to him or her to be heard on specific charges.
(3) During temporary absence or disability of the Building Inspector, the appointing authority shall designate an acting Building Inspector.
(B) Duties. It shall be the duty of the Building Inspector to enforce all laws relating to the construction, alteration, removal and demolition of buildings and structures in the village.
(C) Liability. The Building Inspector, or any employee charged with the enforcement of this subchapter, acting in good faith and without malice for the village in the discharge of his or her duties, shall not thereby render himself or herself liable personally, and he or she is relieved from all personal liability for any damage that may accrue to persons or property as a result of any act required or by reason of any act or omission in the discharge of his or her duties. Any suit brought against the Building Inspector, or his or her employee, because of such act or omission performed by him or her in the enforcement of any provisions of this code, shall be defined by the Village Attorney until final termination of the proceedings.
(D) Right of entry. The Building Inspector, in the discharge of his or her official duties, and, upon proper identification, shall have authority to enter any buildings, structure or premises in the village at any reasonable hour.
