It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge any weapon, firearm or air rifle in the village; provided that this section shall not be construed to prohibit any officer of the law from discharging a firearm in the performance of his or her duty, nor any citizen from discharging any firearm, weapon or air rifle when lawfully defending his or her person, family or property.
