§ 51.34 INSTALLATION AND LOCATION OF METERS.
Water meters shall be installed by the Department of Public Works. No water meter shall be installed in a pit. There shall be no more than one village water meter per residential occupancy. The Department of Public Works may elect to install one water meter to serve multiple residential units in residential dwellings that are at least two stories in height and contain 20 or more individual residential units (multi-unit dwellings). The owner of the multi-unit dwelling, or the condominium association for the multi-unit dwelling, as the case may be, shall be the “customer” for all purposes of this subchapter and, in the event of non-payment, the village shall have the right to place a lien upon the entire multi-unit dwelling, including each condominium unit therein, if applicable. Water meters shall be located in such a position so as to afford easy access for reading, inspection, and maintenance. Periodic water meter and readout inspections shall be made by representatives of the Department of Public Works upon proper notification to the property owner and/or tenant.
