8-1A-2-8: STAIRWAYS DESIGN AND LOCATION:
   A.   Headroom: Continuous clear headroom measured vertically from front edge of tread to a line parallel with stair run, minimum six feet six inches (6'6").
   B.   Width:
      1.   Main Stairs: Minimum, two feet nine inches (2'9") clear of handrail.
      2.   Basement Stairs: Minimum, two feet six inches (2'6") clear of handrail.
   C.   Treads: Minimum width, nine and one-half inches (91/2"), clear of tread above.
   D.   Riser: Eight inches (8") maximum; all riser heights to be same in any one story.
   E.   Winders: Tread width fifteen inches (15") from converging end shall at least equal tread width on straight stair run unless a width of tread at converging end is six inches (6") or more.
   F.   Landings: Width equal to that of stair.
   G.   Handrail: Install continuous handrail on at least one side of each run on each stair and on stair well.
   H.   Guardrail: Provide guardrail around all stairways of more than three (3) risers. (Ord. 0-71-12, 3-11-71)
   I.   Opening: The maximum allowable opening between stair-rail and guardrail balusters shall not exceed four inches (4"). (Ord. 0-93-419, 6-10-93)
