   B.   Additions, Insertions And Changes:
      1.   Nonresidential Constructions: Paragraph 300-22 of article 300 entitled "Wiring Methods" of chapter 3 entitled "Wiring Methods and Material" of the 1996 National Electrical Code as applied to nonresidential construction is hereby deleted and replaced by the following local provision:
300-22 Wiring in Ducts, Plenums and Other Air-Handling Spaces.
         a.   Ducts for Dust, Loose Stock or Vapor Removal: No wiring system or electrical equipment of any type shall be installed in any duct, or shaft which contains such ducts, used to transport dust, loose stock, flammable vapors or ventilation of commercial-type cooking equipment.
         b.   Ducts or Plenums Used for Environmental Air: Electrical equipment and devices shall be permitted with such ducts or plenum chambers only if necessary for their direct action upon, or sensing of the contained air. In such circumstances, the following wiring methods shall apply:
            (1)   Mineral-insulated metal-sheathed cable, rigid metal conduit or electrical metallic tubing shall be used for connection of adjustable equipment. Liquid tight, flexible metal conduit may also be used in lengths not to exceed four feet (4').
            (2)   Connectors used with the above material shall effectively close any openings in the connection or termination.
            (3)   Where equipment is installed in plenums and illumination is necessary for proper maintenance, enclosed gasketed-type fixtures shall be used.
         c.   Hollow Spaces Used As Ducts or Plenums: For wiring systems for any air-handling space other than as described in subparagraph b above or as excepted by subparagraph d below, the following wiring methods shall apply:
            (1)   Mineral insulated metal-sheathed cable, rigid metal conduit or electrical metallic tubing shall be used for connection of fixtures required by this Code. Flexible metal conduit may also be used in lengths not to exceed six feet (6').
            (2)   Connectors and couplings used with the above material shall effectively close any openings in the connection or termination.
            (3)   Junction boxes shall contain no openings other than those used for mounting purposes.
            (4)   That part of any fixture or device which protrudes into the air- handling space shall contain no opening.
         d.   Exceptions: The provisions of subparagraph c above are not intended to apply to integral fan systems specifically approved for the purpose, nor to habitable rooms or areas of any building the prime purpose of which is not air- handling.
         e.   Data Processing Systems: The wiring systems used for data processing systems and located in air-handling spaces created by raised floors shall conform to the following:
            (1)   All conductors for one hundred eight (108) volts and higher shall be enclosed in approved raceway. Cords or cables with plugs furnished with data processing equipment may be run exposed up to four feet (4') under raised floors to a point of connection. Low voltage communication cables of approved non-flammable construction may be run under raised floors without raceways or conduits.
            (2)   No wiring other than that specifically required by the data processing system shall be installed.
            (3)   All exposed metal parts shall be grounded in accordance with the provisions of this Code.
            (4)   Provisions for disconnecting the ventilating system serving the data processing space and the power supply to all electrical equipment in such space, except lighting beyond the air-handling space, shall be located where readily accessible to the operator and at each door designated as an exit from the data processing space.
