Where, within the districts established by this chapter or by amendments, there exists lots, structures, and uses of land and structures which were lawful before this chapter was adopted or amended and which would be prohibited, regulated, or restricted under the terms of this chapter or future amendment; it is the intent of this chapter in certain districts. It is further the intent of this chapter that such nonconformities shall not be enlarged, expanded, or extended except as provided herein; nor to be used as ground for adding other lots, structures, or uses prohibited elsewhere in the same district.
