9-4-1: DEFINITIONS:
For the purpose of this chapter, the following words and terms shall have the following meanings:
BOD (BIOLOGICAL OXYGEN DEMAND): The quantity of oxygen utilized in the biochemical oxidation of organic matter under standard laboratory procedures in five (5) days at twenty degrees Celsius (20°C), expressed in milligrams per liter.
mg/l: Milligrams per liter.
SEWAGE: A combination of the water carried wastes from residences, business buildings, institutions and industrial establishments, together with such ground, surface and storm waters as may be present and includes the domestic waste and industrial sewage in any combination.
SUPERINTENDENT: The person designated superintendent of the sewer department by the city council.
SUSPENDED SOLIDS: Solids that either float on the surface of, or are in suspension in, water, sewage or other liquids, and which are removable by laboratory filtering. (1991 Code § 18-151)
