6-6-2: ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER:
There is hereby created the position of animal control officer.
   A.   Duties:
      1.   The animal control officer is charged with the enforcement of this chapter and all other ordinances of the city relating to the control, leashing, tagging and apprehension of animals, fowl and reptiles.
      2.   The animal control officer is hereby authorized to issue citations for violations of ordinances of the city relating to the control, restraint, abuse and ownership of animals, fowl and reptiles. The animal control officer may not, except in the presence of a duly qualified police officer of the city, make an arrest in which the person arrested is physically taken into custody.
   B.   Board Of Health: The animal control officer shall not be deemed to be a police officer nor shall he be entitled to participate in the police pension plan. He shall have the authority conferred upon health officers, and shall also have the authority to cooperate with the boards of county commissions of Tulsa County and Osage County pursuant to regulations made by those boards under the provisions of 63 Oklahoma Statutes section 1-508, with the state board of health and other municipal and local agencies who regulate and control animals.
   C.   Authority Of Animal Control Officer: The animal control officer is hereby charged with and granted the duty and authority to issue citations and perform all duties authorized by this chapter and any other ordinances relating to animals, fowl and reptiles; provided, however, that nothing herein shall be construed to prohibit any regular police officer from enforcing such ordinances as may be enforced by the animal control officer.
   D.   Salary: The animal control officer shall receive a monthly salary to be fixed by the city council. (1991 Code § 3-2; amd. 2011 Code)
