6-3A-5: WATER METERS; REGULATIONS; MAINTENANCE:
   A.   All premises and property using the town water supply must be equipped with an approved water meter and accessories furnished by the town at the current cost, plus the connection fee as set forth above. Each meter that is installed shall include, either in the meter itself or at a location approved by the water maintenance supervisor, a residential dual check valve backflow prevention device.
   B.   The town herein adopts certain cross connection control regulations. Such regulations shall incorporate all applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, codes, and legislation concerning cross connection control and backflow prevention. Such regulations shall include the general requirements, standards for backflow prevention devices, installation requirements, testing and maintenance requirements, and other relevant matters. The regulations shall be available for inspection at the clerk's office at reasonable business hours.
   C.   All water meters, meter pits, shutoff boxes, and other relevant equipment shall be installed only at a location approved in advance by the water maintenance supervisor. A curb stop shall be inserted in each service pipe, protected by a curb stop cover with the word "water" marked thereon, at the cost of the owner of the premises, and shall be kept in repair by the owner of the premises so that it can be used at any time by the town personnel in shutting off and turning on the supply of water to the premises.
   D.   All service pipes from the mains to the owner's property line shall be installed by, and at the cost of, the owner of the property to be served on the application for service. Such installation shall be under the inspection of the water maintenance supervisor, or his or her designee. All service lines and other materials that will be buried underground shall, at the cost of the owner, have a metal "tracer line" if the installed line is not made of metal.
   E.   No service shall be installed unless the work and material conforms to the standards and regulations promulgated by the town board.
   F.   All repairs for service pipes and plumbing systems of buildings existing on the premises of the owner shall be made by and at the expense of the owners of the premises served. (Ord. 202, 5-6-1997)
   G.   Any and all water meters, meter pits, shutoff boxes, and related accessories installed within the town of Simla pursuant to this code shall be and shall remain the property of the town. In the event of a disconnection from the town water system, such equipment shall be returnable to the town. (Ord. 220, 4-4-2000)
   H.   All residences, businesses, and other structures connected to the town water system, until such time as the water system is lawfully disconnected from the town water system, shall use and pay for water delivered through the system, and shall not import water to the residence, business, or structure other than bottles, jugs, or similar containers for drinking water purposes. No inhabited dwelling shall be allowed to import water for domestic purposes, such as dish and clothes washing, bathing and showering, flushing of toilets, and similar uses, other than drinking water. This provision shall not apply to any residence or business furnished water by an approved domestic water well. (Ord. 297, 2-11-2014; amd. Ord. 319, 8-11-2020)
