(a) For the purpose of this section, members of an elected official’s or employee’s immediate family shall include a husband, wife, father, step-father, mother, step-mother, step- sister, step-brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son, son-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law, step-son, step-daughter, sister, brother, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandparents or grandchildren.
(b) No member of the immediate family of an elected official of the Village, as defined by subsection (a) hereof, shall be hired as an employee of the Village unless hired pursuant to regulation existing prior hereto.
(c) An employee shall not be assigned to a department or job wherein an immediate family member is in the direct line of authority of the related employee, unless such placement was pursuant to regulations and a family relationship existing prior hereto. Direct line of authority is defined as the employee’s immediate supervisor or next immediate supervisor.
(d) Administrative and supervisory personnel at all levels are responsible for reviewing any future employee selections and placements in their areas and complying with the intent of this policy.
(e) Nothing in this section shall prevent any relative of an existing employee from seeking public office in the Village. (Ord. 50-2023. Passed 7-17-23.)
