(a) "Yard" means that portion of the open area on a zoning lot extending between a main building and the nearest lot line.
(b) "Front yard" means the area between the front face of the main building (all forward-facing planes included) extended to each side lot line by a continuation of the front-facing building plane closest to the side lot line, and the front lot line.*
(c) "Rear yard" means the area between the rear face of the main building (all rearward-facing planes included) extended to each side lot line by a continuation of the rearward-facing building plane closest to the side lot line, and the rear lot line.*
Note that this rear yard definition may be modified for corner lots elsewhere in this code.
(d) "Side yard" means any open space on the lot not designated as front yard or rear yard except that on a corner lot the side yard extends from the front yard to the rear lot line on the street side.
*in cases where the front building face is not parallel to the front lot line, the orientation of lines extended to the side lot lines for definition of front and rear yards will be from the nearest point of the main building to the side lot line, parallel to the front lot line.
