1516.01   REQUIREMENTS.
   (a)   It is the responsibility of the owner of each new and existing, occupied one, two or three family dwelling to install smoke detectors in each living unit. It is the responsibility of each occupant or tenant to maintain the installed smoke detectors. The smoke detectors shall be either the ionization or photoelectric type capable of sensing visible or invisible particles of combustion and providing an approved alarm signal. Failure to install or maintain smoke detectors as and where required will subject the owner or tenant to the penalties of this chapter.
   (b)   In new residential dwellings, the appropriate chapter of the CABO one and two Family Dwelling Code pertaining to installation of smoke detectors shall be followed.
