(A) Anyone can ride in town police vehicles if approved by Town Marshal and with a signed waiver.
(B) No town police car shall be used outside the corporate limits unless you are on a call. You must be within our two counties, or the surrounding county.
(C) Personal vehicles of the members of the Town Police Department shall not be used for any police business unless authorized by the Town Marshal and two Town Council members.
(D) The Town of Shirley, Indiana, is not responsible for the actions of the Town Marshal, Deputy or any Reserve while not on duty.
(E) The Town Marshal, Deputy or any member of the Reserves shall not volunteer on their own to help any other law enforcement agency when said personnel are on duty unless it is extreme circumstances or officer is the closest unit within reason.
(F) The Town Marshal will make monthly car reports regarding mileage driven, amount of gas used, any maintenance performed, the number of gun permits issued and the money collected as a result of issuance of such permit, the number of police calls received and responded to as well as the type of call and whether the call was inside or outside of the corporation limits. A copy of these reports shall be presented to the Town Council at their monthly meeting with the original of the records kept in the Town Marshal’s office located in the Town Hall.
(G) All officers, while on duty, will be on road patrol, in the Town Marshal’s office or engaged in other official capacities while on duty, except for the consumption of meals or while on break. When any officer is on call, rather than on duty, the officer may be at his or her home. Weekend duty is considered on call duty and all weekend duty shall be covered by the Town Marshal, Deputy or members of the Reserves, except in case of an emergency.
(H) The Town Council and the Clerk- Treasurer shall be notified in advance of the taking of all vacations, leave and attendance at training sessions.
