A mechanical systems permit shall be obtained before beginning installation, alteration or repairs (other than ordinary repairs), to any mechanical equipment as defined in this subchapter, and all fees required by this subchapter shall be paid to the city through the Office of the Building Department. For purpose of this section, ordinary repairs are nonstructural repairs and do not include addition to, alteration of, or replacement or relocation of gas or fuel lines in conjunction with the installation of new equipment (as defined in this subchapter), electrical wiring or mechanical or other work for which a permit is required by this subchapter.
(B) Application.
(1) The application shall include any other information that may be required by the Building Department to ensure compliance with this subchapter. In addition, a copy of the state design release may be required before the issuance of a permit for construction of a Class I structure covered by such design release.
(2) The issuance of a mechanical systems permit shall, in no case, be construed as waiving any provisions of this subchapter or any other requirement dictated in this title.
(C) Expiration. A mechanical systems permit shall expire one year from the date of issuance for any Class II structure and two years from the date of issuance for any Class I structure. Written notice shall be given to the owner or contractor, together with a notice that further work described in the canceled permit shall not proceed until such time as the mechanical systems permit has been renewed in the Building Department office.
