It shall be the duty of the animal control officer to keep all dogs so impounded for a period of seven (7) calendar days. If, at the expiration of seven (7) calendar days from the date of notice to the owner of a registered dog, or at the expiration of seven (7) calendar days from the date of impounding of any unregistered dog, such dog has not been redeemed, it may be destroyed or sold. Any unregistered dog required by law to be registered, or any dog which appears to be suffering from rabies or affected with hydrophobia, mange or other infectious or dangerous disease shall not be released, but may be forthwith destroyed.
