Of the seven (7) members, one shall serve for a period of seven (7) years, one for a period of six (6) years, one for a period of five (5) years, etc. Thereafter, such members shall serve for a period of four (4) years. Vacancies shall be filled by appointments for unexpired terms only. All members of the commission shall serve without compensation; except, that if the village board of trustees deems it advisable, they may receive such compensation as may be fixed from time to time by said village board of trustees and provided for in the appropriation ordinance.
