§ 151.11 MANDATORY KEY BOXES AND KEY CAPS.
   (A)   Each building protected by an automatic fire suppression and/or standpipe system and shall be equipped with a key box. The key box shall be a Knox Box type and size approved by the Fire Official. In addition each such building shall be equipped with Knox fire department caps. The Knox cap key shall be one that is complaint with the Seymour Fire Department Knox cap key system currently in use. The responsible party shall incur all necessary expenses for the Knox caps.
   (B)   Every commercial building, and every multi-family residential unit of more than four units shall be equipped with a key lock box. The key lock box shall be a Knox Box type and size approved by the Fire Official.
   (C)   This section shall apply prospectively to any new building or remodeling projects commenced within the city. All existing buildings are requested to voluntarily comply with this section. Notwithstanding this provision, any existing commercial building, industrial building or multi-family residential unit of more than four units which is remodeled, structurally altered in any way or change of occupancy classification hereafter, must comply with the terms and provisions of this section.
   (D)   The key box shall be installed on the building no more than four feet to the right of the main building entrance and approximately four feet above the finished grade. Alternate locations shall be approved by the Fire Chief and/or Fire Inspector.
