When the school zone is so marked by appropriate signs, it shall be unlawful for any person to drive or operate any motor vehicle within the school zone at a speed greater than 20 miles per hour, when children are present either on the sidewalk adjacent to the streets in the school zone or upon or at the crosswalks preparatory to crossing those streets.
