For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
APPLICANT. The charitable organization seeking a permit.
CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION. An organization that is qualified under Section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended; Indiana registered non-profit corporations; churches; and public and private schools. Charitable organizations must also either be registered with the Indiana Secretary of State or be exempt from such registration.
CHIEF OF POLICE. The Chief of the Police Department or his or her designee.
EVENT. Any charitable solicitation within the city.
EVENT PERMIT. A permit issued pursuant to this subchapter to conduct an event.
ORDINANCE ADMINISTRATOR. The ordinance enforcement officer of the city.
ORGANIZER. The person responsible for organizing the event and whose name shall be on the application.
PERMIT. An event permit.
SOLICITATION or CHARITABLE SOLICITATION. The act of asking for employment, business or contributions on a public road, street, highway, right-of-way, sidewalk or other public property from the occupant of any vehicle or any pedestrian.
SOLICITOR. Any person who engages in solicitation.
TRAVEL LANES. The marked lanes on a road or highway, or the lanes of travel for vehicles, including turn lanes, access lanes, and acceleration or deceleration lanes.
