§ 31.38 ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR.
The Building Inspector is hereby designated as ex officio Electrical Inspector until further order of the Governing Body. The Electrical Inspector shall file with the Governing Body a bond of a surety company in the sum of $1,000, conditioned that he or she will indemnify and keep harmless the municipality from all liabilities from accident or damage arising from negligence or carelessness in performing his or her work or for any inadequate work done in pursuance of his or her appointment and office, and that he or she will keep all records of his or her office, as provided herein, which shall be the property of the municipality and shall be filed and preserved by the Electrical Inspector in the office of the cashier of public utilities and which shall be delivered to his or her successor in office. He or she may be removed from office for cause only after a full hearing before the Governing Body. It shall be unlawful for the Electrical Inspector to engage in the business of the installation and maintenance of electric wiring, electric devices and electrical materials, either directly or indirectly for profit and he or she shall have no financial interest in any concern engaged in the business in the municipality at any time while holding the office of Electrical Inspector. Any violation of this provision shall be sufficient cause for his or her removal from office, but he or she may be removed for other just cause. It shall be the duty of the Electrical Inspector to enforce the provisions of the Electrical Code. He or she shall inspect all electric apparatus installed within the municipality. He or she shall notify the owner of the premises on which any electrical apparatus has been installed, or the electrician installing the same, of any work done contrary to the provisions of the Electrical Code, and of any defective workmanship or material therein. It shall be the duty of the owner, or electrician, upon being notified of any such defect, immediately to remedy the same, and, if not remedied with a reasonable time, the Electrical Inspector or his or her deputy shall discontinue the electric apparatus from the electric supply; provided, if the defect is such as to endanger life or property, then the Electrical Inspector or his or her agent shall disconnect the electric apparatus immediately. When any electric apparatus shall have been disconnected from the electric supply, it shall not again be connected until all defects have been remedied or until the installation complies strictly with the provisions of this subchapter. The Electrical Inspector shall keep a full and complete record of all work done, construction permits issued, examinations made or other official work performed, as required by this section, and shall annually make a full and detailed report thereof to the Council at the second regular meeting in January. The records shall be the property of the municipality, and shall be so arranged in the office of the Building Inspector so as to afford prompt information concerning the condition and general arrangement of any electrical equipment at the time of the inspector’s last visit. The Electrical Inspector shall have any additional duties as may be prescribed by ordinance or resolution of the Governing Body.
