§ 132.70 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning:
   PARENT. Any person having legal custody of a student who is:
      (1)   A natural or adoptive parent;
      (2)   A legal guardian;
      (3)   A person who stands in loco parentis; or
      (4)   A person to whom legal custody has been given by a court order.
   SCHOOL. Any public, private, or parochial elementary, junior high or high school located within the corporate limits of the Village or in a school operated by a school district with which the Village has an intergovernmental agreement.
   STUDENT. Any person enrolled in grades one (1) through twelve (12) of a public, private, or parochial school within the corporate limits of the Village. Students who are instructed in a home school program are not subject to this subchapter.
   TRUANT. A child subject to compulsory school attendance and who is absent without valid cause from such attendance for a school day or portion thereof.
   VALID CAUSE. Illness, observance of a religious holiday, death in the immediate family, family emergency, and shall include such other situations beyond the control of the student as determined by the principal or principal's designee of the school which the student attends, or such other circumstances which cause reasonable concern to the parent for the safety or health of the student.
