The mayor shall be the chief executive officer of the city and shall perform all such duties as may be required of him by statute or ordinance. He shall have general supervision over all the executive officers of the city and over all of the employees of the city. He shall have the power and authority to inspect all books and records kept by any city officer or employee at any reasonable time. (1977 Code)
