Consistent with the authority granted to the City under the Illinois Municipal Code, 65 Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/11-13-1 et seq., and 5/11-30-4 and other similar authority, no person shall erect, alter, enlarge, repair, convert, move or demolish any building or structure within the City without first obtaining a permit to do so. Failure to obtain a permit as required herein shall lead to the immediate imposition of a five hundred dollar ($500.00) administrative fine and a stop work order. (Ord. 1828, 2-28-2006)
The following fees shall be charged for building permits pursuant to the provisions of the aforesaid Building Codes, together with the processing of applications for and the issuing of zoning certificates, use permits and occupancy certificates:
(A) Refunds: There shall be no refund on any permit paid, except as follows: 1) the Director of Public Works may authorize the reimbursement of any building permit fee paid for the construction of any new residential, commercial or industrial buildings if the applicant for the permit shall first apply in writing for the refund and the Director of Public Works then finds that the building has been completed in accordance with applicable requirements and that the building is ready for occupation; or 2) the City Council finds that a refund should be ordered for other good cause shown to be in the public interest. No refund shall be authorized pursuant to this section for any building permit paid in connection with a new subdivision, or the alteration, repair, enlargement, conversion or replacement of an existing building. (B) Renewals: No additional fee shall be charged for a permit renewal unless there is a change of plans, in which case the application shall be filed as a new application with the proper fees.
(C) Expiration: Building permits shall expire twelve (12) months from the date issued. (1977 Code)
(D) Permit Fees: Permit fees for original construction, alterations, additions or repairs which structurally alter the building shall be fifty dollars ($50.00). (Ord. 2211, 11-14-2017)
