§ 9.01.011 PROTECTION OF SHERIFF’S OFFICE CANINE UNITS.
   It is unlawful for any person to wilfully or maliciously torture, tease, torment, beat, kick, strike, mutilate, injure, disable or kill any dog used by the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, or in the custody of the department or its designated handlers while any such dog is in the performance of the functions or duties of the Sheriff’s Office or to wilfully interfere with any such dog while it is being used in the performance of any of the functions or duties of the Department. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine not exceeding $500 or by imprisonment in the county jail not to exceed six months, or by both the fine and imprisonment.
