The poundmaster shall keep all impounded dogs for the time period required by law. If at the end of that time, such dog shall not have been redeemed, it may be destroyed in some humane manner or otherwise disposed of by the poundmaster. The poundmaster shall have the privilege of claiming any dog which has been impounded in the animal shelter and which has not been reclaimed or redeemed within the time specified in this section. Any dog which appears to be suffering from rabies or infected with rabies, mange or other infectious or dangerous disease shall not be released but may be forthwith destroyed. (HMC § 6.08.200)
