A. Benefit: Benefit of the installation and use of video surveillance systems can provide a visual deterrent to crime, assist with overall security measures, and increase the potential identification and apprehension of person(s) who breach City premises, use policies and/or commit criminal acts. The use of security cameras extends the ability of the Administrative Staff when law enforcement officers are not immediately available. Security cameras are not a guarantee of safety; however, they do serve as deterrents and can alert Administrative Staff to potential danger.
B. Purpose: The installation and use of video surveillance systems in facilities, owned and/or possessed and occupied by the City shall facilitate the following purposes:
1. The protection of the safety of City, employees, invitees who comply with the City’s authorized public use in and around City Facilities; and
2. Respects the privacy rights of City employees and authorized invitee use of City facilities; and
3. The primary use of surveillance cameras is to record images for future identification of individuals and activity in the event of violations of law or City policy. (Ord. 2021-750, 10-12-2021)
