§ 31.63 AUXILIARY POLICE FORCE.
   (A)   Appointment; number; qualifications; term. 
      (1)   The President is hereby authorized and directed to appoint a maximum of five auxiliary police officers, which number may be changed from time to time by ordinance adopted by at least a majority of the Board.
      (2)   Each individual appointment shall be subject to the advice and consent of the Board.
      (3)   An auxiliary police officer need not be a resident of the village.
      (4)   Prior to the appointment of any auxiliary police officer, his or her fingerprints shall be taken, and examination made thereof, and no person shall be appointed as an auxiliary police officer if he or she has been convicted of a felony or crime involving moral turpitude.
      (5)   The term of the appointment shall not exceed one calendar year from the date of appointment.
    (B)   Duties. 
      (1)   Auxiliary police officers shall not supplement members of the regular Police Department of the village in the performance of their assigned and normal duties, except as otherwise provided herein.
      (2)   Auxiliary police officers shall only be assigned to perform the following duties:
         (a)   To aid or direct traffic within the municipality;
         (b)   To aid in the control of natural or human-made disaster;
         (c)   To aid, in case of civil disorder, as directed by the Chief of Police; and
         (d)   In cases which render it impractical for members of the regular Police Department to perform the normal and regular police duties, the Chief of Police of the regular Police Department, with the written consent of the President, may assign auxiliary police officers to perform such normal and regular police duties.
      (3)   Auxiliary police officers, when on duty, shall also be conservators of the peace, and shall have the powers as specified in 65 ILCS 5/3.1-30-20, as now and hereafter amended.
   (C)   Uniforms. Auxiliary police officers shall not wear uniforms, or parts thereof, or any identification symbol, which might be confused with that of members of the regular Police Department.
   (D)   Supervision by Chief. Auxiliary police officers shall, at all times, during the performance of their duties, be subject to the direction and control of the Chief of Police.
   (E)   When permitted to carry firearms. Auxiliary police officers shall not carry firearms, except with the permission of the Chief of Police, who shall have the prior authorization from the President; and unless they are in full uniform and in the performance of their duties.
   (F)   Payment. Auxiliary police officers shall serve without pay from the village.
   (G)   Training.
      (1)   Prior to entering upon any of their duties as auxiliary police officers, each auxiliary police officer shall have received a course of training in the use of weapons and other police procedures as shall be appropriate in the exercise of the powers conferred upon them under this section.
      (2)   The course of training and study shall be reduced to writing and shall be approved by the Board.
   (H)   Oath; bond. An auxiliary police officer shall take a like oath to that of a regular police officer and post a like bond.
   (I)   To be distinguished from police officers. 
      (1)   Auxiliary police officers shall not be members of the regular Police Department of the village.
      (2)   The term POLICE OFFICER as used elsewhere in this code does not include auxiliary police officers.
