If it shall not appear from the records in the office of the Village Treasurer that any dog so impounded is licensed under a valid subsisting license pursuant to the provisions of Public Act 339 of 1919, being M.C.L.A. §§ 287.261 through 287.290, as amended, the village’s Police Chief shall, at the expiration of 72 hours after impounding the dog, surrender the dog to the County Sheriff, or any member of the state constabulary of the state, or make other disposition under the provisions of § 17 of the Act, being M.C.L.A. § 287.277.
