Pursuant to the enactment of Public Law 104-191, known as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA") and the applicable regulations promulgated pursuant thereto, included but not limited to the "Privacy Rule", codified at 45 CFR Parts 160 and 164, the village Fire Department, as a covered "health care provider" as defined under HIPAA and the Privacy Rule is required to take such measures as necessary to ensure the compliance of the Department, and the village in its entirety with the provisions of HIPAA as contained within the privacy rule on or before April 14, 2003. In accordance with the foregoing federal mandate, the village hereby adopts the Village of Romeoville HIPAA Privacy Rule Compliance Policy, as set forth in the materials codified at and incorporated into this chapter as Appendix A to this chapter.
